Sarah Finley

Graduate Student

After completing a Bachelor's of Music in Vocal Peformance at Converse College, Sarah Finley came to the University of Kentucky in 2009 to pursue a PhD in Spanish American Literature and Culture. Drawing upon her musical background, Finley strives to bring an interdisciplinary perspective to research and teaching.

Sarah Finley's research engages aural culture in 17th-century New Spain. This trajectory challenges the limitations of ocularcentric readings of post-Encounter America by drawing out resonances of Contact.

In a concurrent project, Finley focuses the articulation of local identity in the global music industry. Cultural theory, pop music and media studies inform readings of contemporary musicians' reactions to the impact of globalization.
